Wavepower
Oceans cover over 70% of the world’s surface and provide an immense, unlimited and untapped natural energy resource.
Wave power is the process of capturing some of that energy and putting it to work – i.e. to generate electricity. Waves are generated by wind passing over the surface of the sea and can be thought of as “stored wind energy”. In fact the world’s oceans form a natural, massive energy storage solution. The capture of that power is inherently more predictable than some other forms of renewable energy such as wind and solar and can be predicted with accuracy up to 3 days in advance. This predictability provides a positive economic benefit in terms of selling electricity into a competitive electricity market.
Waves with the best energy profile are typically found in deep offshore waters, such as the west coast of Europe and the US. Wavebob is optimised to capture the power from waves with this profile
